DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY
The Department of Botany is one of the oldest faculties of the college. The department is housed on the first floor of “Biology Block”. The under graduate course in biology was started in 1967 and the experience gained through successful running of this course culminated into the start of Post graduate course in 1982. The department also facilitates researches and has well equipped laboratories along with a departmental library.
INFRASTRUCTURAL SUPPORT
The Department of Chemistry, COCAS, Patna is one of the pioneer department of this college which was established in 1957 with under graduate teaching. Subsequently, post graduate teaching was started in 1983. Bio-Chemistry vocational degree program started in 2015. Presently the department is imparting education up to postgraduate and Doctorate levels.
The department has very rich infrastructure. The department has separate PG, UG, Research and Instrument labs. For the students have been provided with library/ reading room in the department. Audio visual aids are regularly used by the teachers.
There are different kinds of activities like Lecture series, quizzes, presentation (oral /Poster), workshop, model building, lab visit etc. are organized for encouraging and assessing the students.
The Department has dedicated and hardworking members in order to make it a center of excellence in teaching and research. The sanctioned faculty strength of the department is 15. Currently department has eight permanent faculty members and Four Non-Teaching Staffs.
The Department has set high standard of teaching and produced highly qualified, visionary and motivated students.

The Department of Zoology was established in the year 1956 and since then it has become a leading Department for undergraduate studies in the field of Animal Sciences. Initial teaching efforts in the department were tailored to train students leading them to a B.Sc. degree. Subsequently, Masters's programmes were rolled out in 2003 with Entomology and Fish & Fisheries offered as special papers. The department also facilitates research having well-established and fully furnished laboratories, research labs, and smart classrooms along with a departmental library. The faculty members are actively involved in supervising Ph.D. students and have published their research papers in journals of national and international repute. The accomplished faculty nurtures the young minds so that they are able to hone their skills, and empowers them to carve out a niche for themselves in a highly competitive world. The department has adopted a blended teaching-learning approach along with the implementation of several innovative teaching-learning strategies. Motivational Talks are organized under various student enrichment programmes to facilitate interaction of students with eminent speakers. The holistic development of students is ensured by engaging them in various curricular and extra-curricular activities planned and conducted throughout the year. The Department of Zoology offers two UGC-Sponsored Add-On Course: Medical Lab Technology (MLT) and Nutrition & Dietetics (N&D) which was started in the year 2006. These add-on courses are self-financed professional programme targeted to cater the health industry needs of trained health professionals. The information, guidance, practical training and programme completion certificate provides the students with not one but many opportunities in the health industry.

The Department of Physics is one of the oldest Departments of the College in Science faculty. The department was established in 1957. The founder head of the department Prof. A.R.Saha, underlayed the culture of peer learning and a rich tradition of institutional commitment , fellowship, dutifulness and innovative practices even in pedagogy. Soon after its inception, the department gained recognition for its academic excellence. The undergraduate teaching started in 1968 and the postgraduate teaching commenced in 1984. Presently the department is imparting education up to postgraduate and Doctorate levels. The sanctioned faculty strength of department is 11. The Department boasts of a team of highly qualified faculties who apart from their academic responsibilities are also actively engaged in research in various emerging fields. Presently, the department has research collaboration with UGC-DAE-Consortium for scientific research, Indore, IIT -Patna, Aryabhatt Knowledge University, Patna, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Burdwan University, West Bengal and Beni-Suif University, Egypt. A major research project is ongoing in the department and several new proposals are in the pipeline. Despite the fact that being a part of teaching focused University, the department is proud to have produced several research papers in very prestigious international journals (SCI journals) of high impact factors.
The physics department of college is proud to have developed many low cost innovative experiments for students to enhance the comprehensive ability and logical thinking of students. Our faculties have developed some concept inventories to map the abilities and interest of students,

- Future Plan:- We have a plan to start a certificate / Diploma course in Nanotechnology and set up an Intellectual Property Right Facilitation Centre at the department which will be a first of its kind within the University.

About Department of Mathematics:
The department of mathematics is one of the pioneer department of this college established in 1957. The
department runs several traditional courses in Mathematics for undergraduate as well as postgraduate
programme for students pursuing B.Sc.(Hons.), B.A. Math (Hons.), M.Sc. (Maths). Apart from this the
department also offers Ph.D. programme in Mathematics. The department offers opportunities for education
and research in a wide spectrum of areas in Mathematics such as: Algebra, Analysis, Differential Equations,
Discrete Mathematics, Operations Research, Mathematical Modelling etc. The department has highly
motivated faculty with diverse specialization in Mathematical sciences providing an excellent opportunity
for pursuing research in core Mathematical science as well as in interdisciplinary areas of sciences.
Currently the department has five permanent and two guest faculty members. The department is committed
to train the students to become future leaders in science for the nation.
